  • When do I call 911?

    Citizens should call 911 for EMERGENCIES ONLY! An emergency is when IMMEDIATE POLICE, FIRE OR AMBULANCE assistance is necessary. For non emergency assistance or situations call 828-295-5210.

  • What is a reportable accident?

    A reportable accident is any accident where the damage to property exceeds $1000, an accident where personal injury has occurred, or an accident where one of the vehicles has fled the scene of the accident. Remember, if you are involved in any type of accident, you must stop & identify yourself to the person you are involved in the accident with. For more information contact the Police Department.

  • What should I do if I am involved in an accident?

    First of all, you should contact the Police Department immediately. The police need to file a report if any item in reportable accidents applies to your accident.Try not to alter the scene of the accident. Have your driver's license and registration information ready and available for the officer when he arrives at the scene of the accident.

  • How should I deal with loud animals?

  • How should I deal with Barking Dogs?

    It is unlawful for a pet owner to allow a dog to habitually or continuously bark so as to be a nuisance or to disrupt the neighborhood. In many situations, a pet owner is unaware that a problem exists or that the barking is posing a problem for others. If possible, try talking to the neighbor first. If this is not an option, or for a repeated offense, contact the Police Department.

  • May I burn residential or commercial trash?

    The burning of residential or commercial trash is prohibited within Town limits by the North Carolina Environmental Management Commission and Town ordinance. However, a Burning Permit may however be obtained for vegetative debris. Please call the Blowing Rock Police Department for a Burning Permit.

  • Where can I get information and instruction about crime prevention?

    Officers are available to give information and instruction on a number of important items pertaining to retail. Some of the issues which are regularly addressed are how to spot and approach potential shoplifters, identifying bad, stolen, or altered checks, counterfeit bills, credit card fraud, and instruction on how to deal with checks that bounce. Also if you have a specific question or concern, the Police Department will assist you. There are no specific class times and appointments can be usually be made at your convenience. Those who are new to the retail business are urged to participate.

  • What is the DARE program about ?

    The Blowing Rock Police Department participates in the DARE program. Classes are taught during the Spring Quarter at the Blowing Rock School. Officers conduct visitation classes in Kindergarten through 4th grade and the core class is taught in the 5th grade. The DARE program teaches about drug prevention, violence, self-esteem, peer pressure, and personal safety. If you have any questions about the program, please contact the Police Department.

  • How can I report itinerant merchant?

    Peddling, soliciting, or acting as an itinerant merchant is strictly prohibited by the Town of Blowing Rock. No person may sell or display for sale any goods, wares, or merchandise within the right-of-way of any street or on any sidewalk adjacent thereto. For any complaints of this nature, contact the Police Department.

  • Do I need to leash my dogs and cats?

    Town ordinance requires that dogs and cats be under physical restraint, such as a leash, or in a secure fence while loose on the owner's property. Dogs and cats must always be under physical restraint off the owner's property. For more information, contact the Police Department.

  • How can I report noise?

    The Town of Blowing Rock recognizes that excessive and unnecessary noise endangers the physical and emotional health and welfare of people along with being a public nuisance. Construction noise cannot take place after 9:00 p.m. or before 7:00 a.m. Raucous noise from a party or gathering in residential areas is prohibited after 11:00 p.m. For more information or to report a problem with noise occurring during these hours, contact the Police Department.

  • Are vehicles allowed to park on public streets?

    On-street vehicle parking in Blowing Rock is allowed in marked spaces on public streets, unless the street is posted as "No Parking" or reserved. However there are time limits of either 15 minutes or 2 hours for most spaces, you will want to confirm if there is a time limit on the space you choose. To report a compliant concerning illegal parking, contact the Police Department.

  • How can I request a speed bump?

    Contact the Police Department for more information and to initiate a request for a speed bump. The Police Department will then determine the necessity of the situation. If a speed bump is warranted in this location, then the Police Department will present a proposal to the Board of Commissioners.
